Arwen's meanderings

Hi everyone and welcome to my dinghy cruising blog about my John Welsford designed 'navigator' named Arwen. Built over three years, Arwen was launched in August 2007. She is a standing lug yawl 14' 6" in length. This blog records our dinghy cruising voyages together around the coastal waters of SW England.
Arwen has an associated YouTube channel so visit www.YouTube.com/c/plymouthwelshboy to find our most recent cruises and click subscribe.
On this blog you will find posts about dinghy cruising locations, accounts of our voyages, maintenance tips and 'How to's' ranging from rigging standing lug sails and building galley boxes to using 'anchor buddies' and creating 'pilotage notes'. I hope you find something that inspires you to get out on the water in your boat. Drop us a comment and happy sailing.

Down at Sennen

Sennen is my favourite part of Cornwall - that part of the tip of our fair nation west of Penzance, where you can stare across the seas to the Scilly Isles.

I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

Hi Steve,
Beautiful location and photos. Particularly like the photos of the little hawk(?) in the previous post. Would love to be able to visit that part of the world again. Was supposed to be in France now but stuck in Aus. Have been enjoying your ‘Arwen’ sailing videos. I have just bought a 50+.year old timber Heron sailing dinghy (same age as me) to get back into sailing. Love the honesty and humility of your blog. Helps me to not be so tentative and to give things a go. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hi Terry. Good on you. A heron should be plenty of fun. The hawk is a kestrel and this one didn't mind me getting up real close on the rock face opposite. Glad the videos are enjoyed. Good luck with the heron....have fun. Think things through, have back up plans, start gently......take care now
