Arwen's meanderings

Hi everyone and welcome to my dinghy cruising blog about my John Welsford designed 'navigator' named Arwen. Built over three years, Arwen was launched in August 2007. She is a standing lug yawl 14' 6" in length. This blog records our dinghy cruising voyages together around the coastal waters of SW England.
Arwen has an associated YouTube channel so visit www.YouTube.com/c/plymouthwelshboy to find our most recent cruises and click subscribe.
On this blog you will find posts about dinghy cruising locations, accounts of our voyages, maintenance tips and 'How to's' ranging from rigging standing lug sails and building galley boxes to using 'anchor buddies' and creating 'pilotage notes'. I hope you find something that inspires you to get out on the water in your boat. Drop us a comment and happy sailing.

The Voyage of the Southern Cross

If you are interested in small boats, dinghy cruising, small boating adventures, then here is a great one. Build and equip a SCAMP to an extraordinary standard, take it to South America and sail it (an 11 foot dinghy) around the notorious Cape Horn, single handed.

And that is what Howard Rice set out to do.
Now his little boat 'Southern Cross' is on a new voyage around the world in an exciting educational project.

What's more, here is a news flash - this amazing boat along with its skipper and designer will be visiting the UK as I understand it during August and September this year, as part of a three year world wide 'voyage'.

This is an amazing project and adventure. If you are a small boat cruiser, adventurer, enthusiast, this is a story, project and voyage not to miss - see the above websites for more details
