Arwen's meanderings

Hi everyone and welcome to my dinghy cruising blog about my John Welsford designed 'navigator' named Arwen. Built over three years, Arwen was launched in August 2007. She is a standing lug yawl 14' 6" in length. This blog records our dinghy cruising voyages together around the coastal waters of SW England.
Arwen has an associated YouTube channel so visit www.YouTube.com/c/plymouthwelshboy to find our most recent cruises and click subscribe.
On this blog you will find posts about dinghy cruising locations, accounts of our voyages, maintenance tips and 'How to's' ranging from rigging standing lug sails and building galley boxes to using 'anchor buddies' and creating 'pilotage notes'. I hope you find something that inspires you to get out on the water in your boat. Drop us a comment and happy sailing.

And so the end

 And there we go.

The last 'boaty' items have been sold on FaceBook marketplace.  Two sailing jackets, salopettes, two lighting boards, two boat trailer hitch and wheel locks, a couple of waterproof roll top bags, a wooden outboard stand and a trailer wheel nut torque wrench. The sale proceeds paid for various items of astrophotography equipment.

All that remains is one home made ditty bag and my faithful trusty kaikoura BA. I'll not part with them!

I've regained some garage space that's for sure - so some new small build projects are on the cards for winter. A small folding garden table; a 'wack-a-mole' type toy for my daughter's cats.  I've started switching my YouTube channel over to astrophotography matters and spent more time developing my astrophotography and moorhoming blogs.

I've been offered a permanent loan of a SOT kayak, which I may well take up once my arm and hand have regained some strength. I kept my waterproof dinghy trousers, just in case; along with my charts, VHF radio and a few waterproof bags.

All that remains to get rid of are a complete set of Dinghy Cruising Association journals going back to around 2012 I think. Need to find them a good home. And then, my 'sailing' library. Except of course my John Welsford book - apparently that is worth quite a bit now and anyway, I'd never part with that book - sentimentality and of course, a treasured long- distance friendship with the author.

I was a little wistful last week when I saw a pod of dolphins playing in the entrance to the river Tamar. Can only admire them from the shore for now.
