Arwen's meanderings

Hi everyone and welcome to my dinghy cruising blog about my John Welsford designed 'navigator' named Arwen. Built over three years, Arwen was launched in August 2007. She is a standing lug yawl 14' 6" in length. This blog records our dinghy cruising voyages together around the coastal waters of SW England.
Arwen has an associated YouTube channel so visit www.YouTube.com/c/plymouthwelshboy to find our most recent cruises and click subscribe.
On this blog you will find posts about dinghy cruising locations, accounts of our voyages, maintenance tips and 'How to's' ranging from rigging standing lug sails and building galley boxes to using 'anchor buddies' and creating 'pilotage notes'. I hope you find something that inspires you to get out on the water in your boat. Drop us a comment and happy sailing.

Bits dropping off trailers

Came home today to discover that the rear v keel roller was hanging off the rear trailer section. The star washer holding the spindle in place had corroded over time. It must have fallen off on the last trip home and the bouncing of the trailer along the road displaced the spindle one end. One of the smaller side rollers has disappeared as a consequence.
So tomorrow it is down to the wonderful people at Tamar Trailer Centre to see if I can get a 19mm star washer and a rubber wheel 50 mm wide and 100mm in diameter.
Makes me chuckle because Steve, with his 'Spartina', over in the States has been having trailer corrosion as well.
I guess I need to check the rollers more carefully! I'll price up a new spindle with split pins either end as well. I think it may be more secure than the star washer!!!
