making wooden oars for a dinghy 4

The smell of fresh Douglas Fir shavings - those tight whorls. The swish of a finely tuned spoke shave. Finely tuned fingers and eyes searching out ridges to shave down.

Straight?.....Er....no.
Pretty?......Er nope!
Symmetrical?.......You're hav'in a laugh aren't you.
Balanced?........Just!
Workmanlike? Absolutely!

One oar rough cut and almost rounded - need sanding; the counterweight block end needs smoothing. The blade needs shaping. The transitions from square to round loom and from loom to blade need transitioning.

Still lots to do and this is only the first one!
