Just received

A copy of Roger Barnes's book on dinghy cruising. Roger is president of the Dinghy Cruising Association. His book is called 'The Dinghy Cruising Companion'.

Very first impression.......high quality, excellent pictures, very comprehensive, lovely writing style, authoritative......I could go on. Every time I flicked randomly to a page, I learned something new, or found something thought provoking.

I am really looking forward to reading it and putting lots more skills into practise. Roger is one of our greatest dinghy cruisers and his experience and that of DCA colleagues is hard won.

On first impression.......get your copy fast!

  1. Based on your initial impressions, I turned to Amazon, found the book and discovered it has "not yet been released." I ordered it - or, rather, pre-ordered it. Of course, Amazon doesn't indicate a release date, so I'll have a surprise coming one of these days!

Thanks for sharing your initial impressions.

  3. Hey Bob
    Got mine from amazon uk
Preordered it back in January I think. I've been reading it slowly, first two chapters. Well written; nothing major if you are an experienced sailor. I'm not so its been brilliant. I love Roger's style of writing, warm, informative in low key way, concise, direct, simple and clear. His little sections on his experiences, sort of diary pieces really, or cameos are charming, humorous, and wonderfully descriptive. They really put across the delights and tribulations of dinghy cruising.

Wish I could write like that!
I still think, for me, at least, it has been an excellent purchase.
