GoPro Hero HD2

We are getting excited in a very sad way. The camera hasn't arrived yet but it is on its way (we hope!!). In the meantime we are trying to find out how it works. This video clip seems to give the basics.

Only son has to get to grips with it first so he can use it on his bike helmet. Then we have an opportunity to use it on Angharad, our lapstrake planked open kayak next weekend. We are planning a three day canoe trip on the Norfolk Broads in the summer if we ever get the weather. Son wants to take Angharad and I'll hire an open canadian canoe. A long time ago, a very long time ago, I actually knew how to paddle one quite well. I even built one called 'Chakotay'. I sold it a long time ago. Yes 'Chakotay' from Star Trek 'Voyager'......I needed a name which sounded spiritual, in touch with one's surroundings!!  Anyway, son has to use Angharad next week and prove to me that he can use her safely.

It it is anything like the previous version that Maria and I have, it is a bit tedious to change settings. It looks like the LCD on yours is a bit less cryptic than on ours.

Basic procedure is you power it on by pressing the front button. You start and stop recording by pressing the top button. You change modes by pressing the front button. You turn it off by holding the top button. To change settings, you use the front button to step through options and the top button to change the selected option (a rather tedious procedure).

My recommendation is to find a video mode that you want to use and generally speaking stick with it. Then you just turn it on with the front button and press the top button to start recording. When you are done, press the top button to stop recording and hold the front button to turn it off.

Best of luck! I bet you will get some fantastic video from Arwen.

  2. Wayne this is really helpful so thank you. you can see we have posted our initial first impressions before playing properly with it. The interface seems to be an improvement on the old Hero.

thanks for the tips. Hope you and family are well. we continue to suffer so much rain that we are a nation investing in armbands and personal floatation devices just in case!!
