Our own double is an Ocean malibu, no real reason for the choice it was on the shortlist and the local dealer had one in stock, very stable and does the job very well.

One word of warning our single gets used at least 3 times more often than the double, I can put it on the roof of our SUV easily on my own, absolute breeze to trolley and launch. Ours is an Ocean 11 foot but I'd probably go for 13 foot if I was buying again, fortunately ours tracks really well, better than the feel free single I've also paddled - all in the hull design but means using energy for forward motion not keeping course if doing distances.

I can get the Malibu on the car but it's a real struggle, much better two handed, if I was doing it more often I'd be in the market for one of those kayak loaders.

Re exercise, I can fit in going out for a couple of hours around all the other things that have to be done, or longer as opportunity allows.

My advice is buy a double and a single you won't regret it, keep them in the garage and after 10 years they will still be in great condition - look forward to seeing some kayak adventures

MaxBursledon Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14020592383830135476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263863416874538973.post-86503963135944450142023-10-23T16:30:01.861+01:002023-10-23T16:30:01.861+01:00As a middle-aged man.......give some thought as to...As a middle-aged man.......give some thought as to how you might "answer the call" when out..Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263863416874538973.post-40493122633411152862023-10-19T11:27:14.564+01:002023-10-19T11:27:14.564+01:00Jim it would be an absolute privilege and honour t...Jim it would be an absolute privilege and honour to be able to sail with you. I've seen strong winds break boats and harm people and am pretty happy I can get myself back ashore if some types of bad weather catches me out, but venturing out into bad weather doesn't seem prudent nor great seapersonship to me. My test is: "Am I enjoying/learning from this?" If the answer is "No', then the doubt rule is enforced!

Regarding kit, I note you don't discriminate between vital (warps & ropes) and discretional 'drone, go pro). If it safely fits in the boat then take it AFAIC!
Great blog as always,
BlairBlair Jamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10038997449050582558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263863416874538973.post-44145198484328041862023-08-04T04:57:34.959+01:002023-08-04T04:57:34.959+01:00An indispensable item for any boating enthusiast&#...An indispensable item for any boating enthusiast's tool kit! Marine Sealant ensures peace of mind and keeps your dinghy cruising smoothly. Drilling more would seem a waste of time :) although it is a good idea i must admit. It seems to all have survived a decade thus far. however, if the boat bilge fills with water that has leaked through the tarp over winter - because the boat is on a steep sloping drive - it collects down at the base of the forward seat bulkhead where those circular hatches are. on a couple of occasions - the hatches have been unscrewed and water discovered within the locker!! I think the water has probably built up against the hatches and then over the long time seeped through the seal area. I did one year take off the hatches and replaced the sealant that they bedded into and that also seems to have made a difference. stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06932550661580632605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263863416874538973.post-21580590052559259982023-07-11T11:19:45.152+01:002023-07-11T11:19:45.152+01:00hey Wayne - how you doing?

On my Bay Raider 17, I leave them on, and the experienced sailor/ engineer I bought the boat off also seems to leave them on so I suspect it isn't a problem. I have heard of people drilling a very, very small pin-sized hole to allow air in/out but being so small the water ingress isn't an issue. In the past when I have left them off the water fills the lock areas and is a nightmare to get out and clean out. Leaving them screwed shut hasn't caused any problems thus far but I have never given this consideration and will do now - really good observation and tip - thank you. The other lockers remain slightly open to allow airflow through since water doesn't collect in those areas. stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06932550661580632605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263863416874538973.post-2540313748431798682023-06-23T11:38:14.453+01:002023-06-23T11:38:14.453+01:00I see, I think, that the inspection hatches were l...I see, I think, that the inspection hatches were left on/ sealed in the video.
