Very muddy half way up and thence to Aveton Gifford and dries out to mud very quickly on the ebb. However one pronounces Aveton Gifford, someone will tell you it's incorrest. My father-in-law (from a Salcombe family) always called it "Aveton (pronouncing the "e" as you did in the clip) Gifford" with a "J", so I go with him, but you'll get Awton, too.
