Arwen's meanderings

Hi everyone and welcome to my dinghy cruising blog about my John Welsford designed 'navigator' named Arwen. Built over three years, Arwen was launched in August 2007. She is a standing lug yawl 14' 6" in length. This blog records our dinghy cruising voyages together around the coastal waters of SW England.
Arwen has an associated YouTube channel so visit www.YouTube.com/c/plymouthwelshboy to find our most recent cruises and click subscribe.
On this blog you will find posts about dinghy cruising locations, accounts of our voyages, maintenance tips and 'How to's' ranging from rigging standing lug sails and building galley boxes to using 'anchor buddies' and creating 'pilotage notes'. I hope you find something that inspires you to get out on the water in your boat. Drop us a comment and happy sailing.

Sailing the River Tamar

I found some useful sites about sailing my local River Tamar. I've posted about the Tamar before and you can access these posts from the web addresses at the end of this post.

This one takes you to a great little PDF leaflet about exploring the Tamar Valley.

http://www.rya.org.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/cruising/ RYA%20Guide%20to%20the%20River20Lynher.pdf
Is a very useful document published by the RYA, a detailed cruising guide.

This site is the excellent 'visitmyharbour'. You can subscribe to it but much is also free.
A fab starting point for planning any UK voyages.

An excellent pilotage guide by the weir quay sailing club is found at

John Perry, who lives in Plymouth and is a member of the adventurous and highly
knowledgeable and skilled 'Dinghy Cruising Association' posted a very good club report at

Anyway hope these sites are useful and provide an impetus to come explore Arwen's patch
